image.xmas.woman-laptop-cardsIt’s the most wonderful time of the year.  Or so the song goes.
Unfortunately, for many, the festivities, along with the spirit of the season, get overshadowed by the stress we feel.  Some of us even put that stress on ourselves and every year our expectations for the “perfect holiday” end in disappointment.  We are programmed to set ourselves up in this way.  For many, the “Perfect” holiday,  is the one impressed upon our minds and jammed down our throats through the various forms of advertising and other media that we see daily, starting around Halloween.  Well guess what?  This perfect holiday doesn’t exist except on TV!  Think about it, do you know anyone who actually celebrates the season as shown in the movies and on TV?  It’s not real!  So STOP beating yourself up right now!  If you don’t, it will only get worse as we get into the heart of the season.
There is a lot of pressure on most of us regardless of it’s origin.  There is so much to do!  While most of us are still expected to perform our work and household commitments as usual, we now have all the extra shopping to do, parties to go to, cooking and baking, decorating, holiday cards to prepare, gifts to wrap, getting the kids to where they need to be, school events, and the list goes on and on!  It’s HARD WORK getting everything that you want to do done and, it’s easy to feel like you are the only one not living up to the season’s commercialized expectations.
That being said, lets think about what this season is really about.  Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, the season holds the same feeling for us all.  It’s about LOVE and GIVING.  It’s the time of year that we all feel kindred to one another.  A time to say what’s in our hearts and give thanks for all the little things overlooked much of the year.  It’s a special time of year that gives us reason to spend time with our families, loved ones, and friends.  Without this wonderful time of the year, we may not make the time for the important things that seem to get set aside due to our busy lives the remainder of the year.  It doesn’t matter whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other holiday this time of year or any time, try to remember what’s really important and what’s not.  Time is your greatest asset.  No one will notice if the cookies aren’t home baked if you are spending time lavishing love and attention on them.  Believe me, your time IS the greatest gift you can give those who are important to you.  Time and attention are human NEEDS, cookies, decorations and the perfect meal are not.  If you want to make homemade cookies how about trying a cookie exchange or simply making them with family or friends.  Those ideas are a much better investment of your time with those you love.
Making the most of your time will work best if you apply a little time management.  First, make a list of all the tasks you want accomplish and prioritize it.  Then, figure out how you might incorporate spending some time with someone who is important to you as you accomplish each of the tasks.  Shopping with your mom, mother in law, sister, husband or a friend including a meal together is a good example.  You  have to eat anyway right?  Have a “decorating your house” party.   Bake cookies or something else yummy together with family or friends, have a holiday greeting card party (more on this theme below), have a holiday gift exchange instead of buying all of those individual (and expensive) gifts.  While running all over town, stop and have lunch at school with your child.  Put love notes in your families pockets where they will find them later. It all boils down to setting aside time for what is really important to you and doing those things with someone else.  You’ll all enjoy the tasks much more doing them together.
As you may already know, I’m in the greeting card business.  I love what I do and since I am in this business with my eldest daughter, it gives us plenty of time to spend together.  We are both looking forward to the holiday season as business is usually pretty good at this time of year.  Almost everyone sends one kind of holiday card or another so this is a busy time in this business.  This caused us to put on our thinking caps and get started making our own task list.  We got the list done, started prioritizing it and  in the process of figuring out how to “make more time”, we came up with an idea that is not only good for us, but we think is going to be a helpful service to our customers while at the same time, allowing us to practice what we preach.
We are holding a  holiday card party!  What the heck is that you ask?   Here’s the idea.  Get all your friends together and have them bring their holiday cards, their mailing lists, any photos they want to include in the cards, their stamps and anything else you can think of that you’ll need.  Spend the evening chatting, enjoying each others company, and making out your holiday cards together!
Sounds like fun, but wait, there’s more and it gets better!
Invite us and we’ll come and show you and your guests how to get the task of sending personalized custom holiday cards to everyone on your list, including choosing the cards, including a personal note and photo if you wish, addressing, stuffing and stamping, and mailing done in less than an hour!  You’ll benefit by just having a good ole time socializing.  Impossible you say?  I say possible and even easy.
Here is how it works…
